Impromptu presentation

September 28, 2016

A big thank you to Genny, Ugnius, Delaxan, Aimran, Imane, Noah, David and Kashai who stepped in to help out with an assembly this afternoon at incredibly short notice. I gave them somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes to prepare and they did a fabulous job, sharing everything they have learned about Alan Turing and […]

Oral Storytelling

September 28, 2016

This term we are looking at traditional stories and yesterday read the Norwegian tale of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. Mrs Duke modelled how to use actions, expression and tone while reading and then the pupils used stick puppets and role play to retell the story in small groups and then to the whole class.

In the hot seat

September 27, 2016

We have recently begun a new Power of Reading unit, studying the Firework Maker’s Daughter (the first of our two books by Philip Pullman) At first, it seemed like it was going to be a sad story about a Firework Maker whose daughter, Lila, left home in anger but now we are following on her journey to Mount […]

Story time in Year 6

September 26, 2016

We have just been treated to our end of day story read, this time, by Shajan and Imen. The children were completely engaged and kept asking for them to do the proper voice of grandma from George’s Marvellous Medicine. Thank you Shajan and Imen for such a lovely end to the day!

Countryside Live Show

September 23, 2016

Year 1 enjoyed going to the Countryside Live on Wednesday. They were accompanied to the venue with their very helpful Year 6 partners. After our journey walking and by bus, we first enjoyed a mini beast hunt. We found grasshoppers, spiders and more in our nets! We used our pots to get a closer look […]

Countryside Live!

September 21, 2016

Today, Year 6 took Year 1 to Countryside Live in Lee Valley. It was a very long walk but the children were so patient and couldn’t wait to finally arrive and their spirits were kept high by Aimran’s sing-alongs from popular CBeebies shows he has heard of. Once we had had a short rest, it […]

September 17, 2016

Our class hero is Alan Turing and we have been finding out about his interests, his education and what he is known for. We found out not only about his love of maths and science and his role as a code breaker during WWII, building the Bombe to crack the enigma code, but also about […]

Prepare for a scare!

September 16, 2016

I am incredibly proud to announce the completion of Year 6’s first book. They have worked tremendously hard to get these horror stories ready to publish and I am so so impressed with the outcome. Congratulations, Year 6, on your first publication. Click the image below to enlarge the flipbook and read away! * Some […]

Looking round corners

September 13, 2016

This afternoon was unbearably hot and Year 6 were so patient when I told them we had to briefly close the windows and blinds to look at how light behaves..! We (very quickly) gathered round a table while we predicted where the light would shine if I directed it towards a mirror at an angle. […]

Creating suspense

September 12, 2016

Today, for the second part of our horror story unit, we listened to a short, creepy story by Pie Corbett. We thought about which words, phrases and mental images were the scariest and discussed what the author was doing to make us want to read more. In small groups, the children then learned sections of […]
