Fractions in Year 3

Year 3 have been getting to grips with finding fractions of numbers this past week. In particular, the children have been exploring the relationship between denominator and dividing. For example, when finding 2/10 of 30 the children were being asked to understand this as 30 ÷ 10 followed by multiplying their findings by the numerator. As you can see, in order to visualise this complicated strategy, we used partitioned grids and counters.
